The McVey Graduating Class Gift
Every year, the members of the McVey
graduating class buy a gift for the school to be remembered by. This year
the graduating class bought a tulip tree which is planted in front of the
first grade wing by the flagpole. This tree will grow to about 70 feet
tall in around 30-35 years and will provide shade on a hot school days
for the future students.
On June 7th, 2002 a tree ceremony
was held. At this ceremony, Mr.Fosso, the other 5th grade teachers and
Dr. Meyerowitz talked to us about what this tree meant to the school and
what the purpose was of getting it. Then, the children from Mr. Fosso's
class sang a song about the nature of weather. Before we sang, Mr. Fosso
read a poem called "Anyway", written by Kent Keith. After that, the delegates
of each class took a jug of water and soaked the tree's roots. This was
a very nice experience for the 2002 graduates of McVey. Our gift giving
ceremony was something that no one will soon forget.
