Heartache
I am Dr. Dan
and I have a patient come to my office and he is crying. I ask his mom
when did he start crying. His mom said that when a car hit his friend he
had started crying. He saw what had happened. When he came into the house
he started to cry and he said his heart had a pain.
I asked my colleague,
Dr. Mike, if he knew what was wrong with this boy. He said he did not know.
The boy said his heart felt like it was getting squeezed. I said to Dr.
Mike that means that the ventricles are getting closer and squeezing the
heart and giving it a pain. This pain is called heartache.
We have to perform
an operation. The operation would require that we take the two ventricles
and spread them out. That will not make his heartache feel better. We would
also have to make the veins a little bigger because the blood is backing
up by the heart.
We have the
operation today. If we do not perform this operation it will be harder
for us to do later because there might be another complication in one week.
So we had to do it immediately.
We did the operation and the boy had to come back a week later. He came
back and he said that his heart did not hurt anymore. He lived
happily ever after.
