This just in......Canada Celebrates New Territory!!
Canada does not have two territories anymore.  It now has three!  The new territory is called Nunavut. Nunavut was split off from the Northwest Territories at the stroke of midnight to become the countries third territory. The  new territory covers a fifth of Canada's land, from the Hudson Bay to Ellesmere Island on the Arctic Ocean. Nunavut is 770,000 sq. miles. The capital is Iqaluit. The population is 27,000. 60 percent under age 25. One quarter of the residents are classified as heavy drinkers, three times the national average. 85 percent of Nunavuts and 27,000 are Inuit. Inuit is an eskimo. The weather there is around 51 degrees. Ottawa will pour in about 800 million dollars in Canadian money a year into Nunavut at a cost of $30,000 per resident. The American dollar is worth $1.51 in Canada. Territorial government thinks they will be better to the people than the northwest territories government. Nunavut has midnight fireworks over the moonlit sky celebrating their new territory.        April 2, 1999
